Interpreting Services a MUST outside of school
If your child requires an interpreter throughout the school day, it is important that your child utilize interpreting services outside of school also. As your child gains more independence day by day, it is crucial that they learn how to request an interpreter at important events such as doctor's appointments, meetings, and social events. He or she must call the doctor's office or the person in charge of the meeting to request an interpreter. If they do not know who to call to request one, please look under the link Interpreting Services for more information. Also there is a link that explains your child's right to an interpreter at no cost. Going to meetings and appointments without an interpreter prevents them from understanding what they need to know about their health or the content of the meeting being held. This is not an equal right because they are missing information that a hearing person can easily gather. If you have any other questions, please contact me.
